A Public Reply to the Financial Times (IV)

Friday, 4 december 2009 | Financial Times
When discussing the question of independence movements from an international standpoint, the assumption always seems to be that those in favour of separation are dangerous fanatics, self-serving chauvinists or, at best, a well-meaning but barmy lot; states, on the other hand, tend to be given at least the benefit of the doubt. So commentators wanting to appear fair and reasonable usually end up making the case for the status quo, simply presuming that there is little or no merit to the independentist option. [+]

Respostes a Le Figaro i Libération

Resposta Pública a Le Temps

Friday, 27 november 2009 | Le Temps
Professor Joan Solà at the European Parliament

Sunday, 15 november 2009 | Catalonia
Dear Members of the European Parliament: We have come here before you as speakers of a European language that at several moments in its history has dispalyed first rate production and quality. It is a language that between the XIIth and XVth Centuries, cultivated prose and poetry of great richness and subtlety in all areas of public and private life: in the Administration, science, history, philosophy, religion and literature, with figures of international projection such as Raymund Lully (Ramon Llull), Ausiàs March, Jaume I or Saint Vicent Ferrer. Toni Strubell at the European Parliament

Sunday, 15 november 2009 | Catalonia
Dear Members of the European Parliament, My name is Toni Strubell. I am a University Lecturer and Coordinator of an organization called the Dignity Commission which seeks to recover archives, private libraries and documents confiscated by Franco in 1939 and return them to their rightful owners in Catalonia and elsewhere. My father was English and my mother is Catalan. I have lived almost all my life in one or other country. During my life I have not been able to help noticing the very different ways in which fate has treated the two small European nations to which I belong and their cultures. [+]

Sobre l'article de The Independent

Tuesday, 10 november 2009 | The Independent

Michael McCarthy: Minor languages, major importance (The Independent)

Tuesday, 10 november 2009 | The Independent
We would like to acknowledge Mr. Michael McCarthy´s sympathetic view of minority languages (“Minor languages, major importance”, November 10, 2009) as an encouraging departure from the dismissive and mostly groundless opinions that are frequently heard on this issue. We don´t necessarily share, however, his optimistic assessment of EU policies on the matter, not to mention those of state governments, always more intent on promoting the languages of their respective majorities.
